Networking

The University of Bristol works closely with a wide variety of other universities and organisations to ensure that its research work is complemented in the best possible way, and exploited commercially in the most effective way.  The aim is to harness the knowledge, expertise and talent of its departments to generate business growth in the region.

University Networks

In recent years there has been encouragement from government both at national and regional level for universities to look to build strong business relationships with other Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in their regional areas.  Hence, the University of Bristol has partnered with the Universities of Bath, Southampton and Surrey to collaborate closely on all aspects of Enterprise.  More information on this partnership is available.

The University is also one of the 14 partners in the Knowledge Exploitation South West partnership.  This network was created to encourage collaboration between universities and businesses within the South West, and to provide easier access for businesses to services provided by Universities.  This activity is facilitated at the University of Bristol by a Business Account Manager.

The 3 year initiative aims to help businesses gain access to specialist expertise and new technologies developed in universities that will assist them in their growth.  It will also support “Knowledge Entrepreneurs” – individuals who will develop higher education expertise to create new businesses and jobs in the region.

This initiative is funded by the South West of England Regional Development Agency (SWRDA) in partnership with the Higher Education Regional Development Agency – South West (HERDA-SW).

Bristol Enterprise Network

The Bristol Enterprise Network is the University's facility to assist knowledge transfer among the high-tech, high-growth business community.  The network, which is free to join, brings together regional, national and international organisations from both the commercial and academic arenas.  It provides easy and rapid access to the knowledge, expertise, experience and equipment that is available.  Some of the benefits of membership are the opportunity to network with business people, access to a group of entrepreneurs, interaction with researchers and leading academics, and also sign up to attend a series of training and development opportunities including presentations, lectures, seminars and workshop.

Regional Development Agency and Business Support Organisations

The University maintains close links with the South West Regional Development Agency, through which a number of programmes are funded, and company links are set up.  It also has links with Business West and other Business Links in the region, through which we are in a good position to support businesses and enterprise throughout the region.
