Brands are increasingly at the mercy of well informed customers with a social conscience wanting products and services which aspire to their own ethical values.  There is increasing interest in sustainability, diversity, organic products, fair trade, food miles, CO2 emissions, climate change and the use of labels such as Carbon Neutral and Carbon Footprint clearly demonstrating consumer appetite for ethical and sustainable approaches.

Recent inclusion of 'Directors Duties' to the Companies Act, from 1 October 2007, include responsibility for considering the company's 'impact on community and environment'.  Major corporates and organisations now also include 'Corporate Social Responsibility' statements within their annual reports.

But it is also clear that there are mixed messages, confusion and misunderstandings in the market place.

The 2008 marketing forum has drawn on international and national speakers to address the major issues impacting on brands today.
