Styles of Entrepreneurial Leadership

March BEN event in conjunction with UWE and Business Link

Thursday 13 March 2008, 18:00 - 21:00
LT2 School of Chemistry, Cantock's Close, Bristol, BS8 1TS

Speaker(s): Chris Farmer (Corporate Coach Group); Melissa Henry (Sustrans); Paul Tinkler (Mirifice Ltd); John Kirwan (Strategic Planning Solutions)

Leadership is something that is endlessly analysed and discussed.  Yet most entrepreneurs don't start a business because they want to be a leader; they do it because of the challenge, the desire to make some money, or the wish to make a difference.  Leadership is a mantle an entrepreneur has to assume.  Like it or not an entrepreneur has to be a leader, otherwise no employee, supplier, investor or even customer is likely to buy into their vision and help make that business a success.

This event will explore the styles of entrepreneurial leadership: the strategies adopted by accomplished business owners, as well as entrepreneurial characteristics exhibited by leaders in the corporate and public sectors.  Much of it is self-evident: the ability to communicate, to resolve conflict, to set clear goals.  But how that is implemented in practice and how an entrepreneur can devise a style of leadership that best suits them is open to debate.
