The bigger picture

The Research Excellence Framework is likely to assess impact of research, which can be demonstrated through public engagement. Research Councils and other funders require that you describe the possible impact of your research through impact plans - also known as Pathways to Impact. They may also ask you to report on research impact at the end of grants. 

At the University of Bristol, public engagement is part of academic promotion criteria and is considered during the Departmental Review process. Further information about measuring impact.
