Setting the public engagement strategy

Making sure we reach our aim of being an engaged university >

The Engaged University Steering Group sets public engagement strategy at the University. Chaired by a Pro Vice-Chancellor, it brings together the different strands of public engagement and ensures we live up to our aim of being an Engaged University. It reports to Education Committee and, through that, to Senate, the principal academic body of the University.

The EUSG is responsible for the Engaged University Vision, which has the following three objectives:

to support and promote dialogue between academic staff/students and the public
to play a leading role in setting the national agenda on public engagement in higher education
to respond positively to community needs.

The EUSG will ensure these objectives are achieved and assume a strategic overview of public engagement by:

ensuring that public engagement at the University of Bristol is developed strategically and with appropriate external partners
including representatives from different areas of public engagement within the group
prioritising public engagement activities, seeking internal and external advice
communicating about public engagement with all faculties through faculty-level champions.

The Group meets three times per year and also hosts public engagement fora - themed meetings that draw together external organisations with relevant academics around specific issues.
