29 August 2013

TARG Research Collaborator, Sally Adams recently attended a meeting at the Home Office regarding the Government’s proposal on the sale of alcohol at motorway service areas (MSAs).

TARG Research Collaborator, Sally Adams recently attended a meeting at the Home Office regarding the Government’s proposal on the sale of alcohol at motorway service areas.  This meeting was held following the Government’s Alcohol Strategy consultation response, published by the Home Office on 17 July, to consider the sale of alcohol as part of the Department for Transport’s wider consultation on the strategic road network.

Sally represented the science community at the meeting attended by traders, licensing officials and the police force. She discussed research on the effects of alcohol on driving performance, the role of cue-reactivity to alcohol-related cues in triggering craving and alcohol use and problems around the increased availability of alcohol.

Sally’s input was well received and she will be providing the Home Office with supporting evidence of the areas discussed.
