The School of Experimental Psychology successfully renews Athena SWAN Bronze Award

We have successfully renewed our Athena SWAN Bronze Award in October 2017.
We are very pleased to announce that we have successfully secured the renewal of our Bronze Athena SWAN award.
The submission was led by the School’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Lead, Dr Angela Attwood, and was supported by a widely representative Self-Assessment Team that included undergraduate and postgraduate students, academics, School Management and Professional Services.
The submission identified a two-tier reactive and proactive approach to equality and diversity issues, where the School will work to identify and tackle local issues (reactive), but also develop innovative actions to promote positive working environments, positive cultures and optimise support for all (proactive). One of the priority actions identified was the development of a comprehensive Mentoring and Career Support (MACS) framework.
This multi-faceted initiative will improve visibility of current career-related opportunities (both internal and external) through the development of a comprehensive and interactive section on the School’s intranet. It will also enhance existing opportunities by implementing new schemes where current needs are not met. As part of this initiative, we have already formalised a Welcome Mentoring Scheme for new academic members of staff and an Early Career Mentoring Scheme for postgraduate students and early-career research staff.
The whole team are proud of this success and look forward to consolidating our planned actions over the next for years, and building towards a Silver Athena SWAN application in 2021!.
