Bristol Poverty Institute interdisciplinary lunchtime seminar series

Energy/Fuel Poverty and Sustainable Solutions

Thursday 2 April 2020, 12:30-14:00 (including lunch)

In light of the emerging COVID-19 situation, we have sadly taken the decision to postpone all upcoming BPI events. However, we plan to reschedule this important event for a future date and will inform you of the new date.

The Bristol Poverty Institute is pleased to announce an upcoming interdisciplinary lunchtime seminar on the topic of Energy/Fuel Poverty and Sustainable Solutions on Thursday 2 April from 12:30-14:00. The seminar will commence with several short presentations on the different dimensions of energy/fuel poverty and how we can develop sustainable solutions to mitigate this. Our fantastic speakers represent a range of disciplinary perspectives:

We will also be joined by Hannah Spungin, the Project Manager at Bristol City Council currently working on the city’s new Fuel Poverty Action Plan. We will then move onto an open discussion, in which all attendees will be encouraged to participate. Participants are welcome to discuss issues related to energy/fuel poverty and sustainable solutions on local, national or international scales, and can explore any relevant aspect including but not limited to sustainable energy/fuel models, green energy technologies, dimensions of energy and fuel poverty, trade-offs between sustainability and wellbeing, law and policy, ethics, and social inclusion and exclusion.

The key aims of this seminar series are to facilitate networking, to expose researchers to different perspectives and approaches, to showcase the range and value of research taking place on poverty-relevant themes across schools and faculties, and to set collaborations in motion. We also welcome participants who are not currently working directly on poverty-focussed projects, as a key purpose of these seminars is to bring together researchers working in relevant fields and to try and expand the community of UoB researchers engaged with poverty-relevant issues.

The event is open to University of Bristol academics at all career stages (including PhD researchers). Places are limited and we are expecting this to be a popular event, so if you are interested in attending please contact bristol-poverty-institute@bristol.ac.uk to register your interest as soon as possible to avoid disappointment. We are also happy to accommodate a few members of Professional Services staff if capacity allows, so please do get in touch if you are interested and we can add you to the waiting list. When registering please let us know if you have any accessibility or special assistance requirements, and/or dietary requirements for the lunch.

We look forward to seeing you there!
