EPIDOME Public Engagement Event

17 November 2021

Please join us at this fantastic event on Tuesday 30th November from 18:00-19:00

Join us and share your thoughts on a future medical technology! We are hosting an online public discussion about a future technology to accelerate wound healing, giving you an opportunity to hear about our exciting research and contribute to its direction.

Waiting for wounds to heal can be a frustrating process, whether you lead an active life or not. Speeding up this process is better for everyone, and that is exactly what our research team is trying to do.

The EPI-DOME is a concept for a future technology to accelerate wound healing. We know that light exposure can speed up cell regeneration, so we are trying to harness this in an autonomous medical device. The EPI-DOME concept involves precisely directing light at cells in a wound based on real-time, highly magnified camera images. This is intended to be autonomously controlled (meaning that the device will figure out for itself where to direct the light) so that the device can be used in a person's home, or even on the move, without supervision from a healthcare professional.

We are still in the early stages of developing this technology, but we want to find out about what people think of the idea. Is this something you would be willing to use? Do you have any concerns about how it would work? Would you trust a device to work by itself, without supervision?

This public engagement event is an opportunity for you to find out more about the technology and let us know what you think about it. Lasting for an hour, it will start with a talk from us about the EPI-DOME and how it might fit into clinical practice. We will then open up the (virtual) floor to you!

After the event, you will be sent a short online feedback form. Filling this out is optional, and your answers will be collected anonymously. Your feedback will help us as we continue our research (it will not be published or put into the public domain), ensuring that we are attentive to the thoughts of potential future users of the EPI-DOME.
