Dr Tom Scott meets minister and nuclear industry
13 March 2015
Dr Tom Scott was recently invited to a meeting at Downing Street, London, about degree-level nuclear skills, chaired by Minister Philip Dunne.
As Director of the South West Nuclear Hub, Dr Scott and a team at the University of Bristol have been working closely with government and industry partners from EDF Energy and Sellafield to address a potential skills gap in the UK nuclear industry, as many of its experts approach retirement age.
As part of this initiative to train hundreds of new nuclear experts, the University has established a Nuclear Science and Engineering MSc programme, starting in September 2015, that will provide postgraduate training in the most important disciplines: structural integrity; materials; risk; control; monitoring and remote characterisation.
