Entry Requirements

Undergraduate Admissions

Candidates for all the degree programmes offered are expected to be able to offer at least 4 subjects at AS in year 12, with three of these being pursued at A2-level in year 13, to give a final tally of 3 A-levels and one AS-level.

Offers are usually made on three A-levels (typically ABB) to include two science subjects, one of which may be Mathematics. One of the three A-levels offered can be a non-Science, non-Mathematics A-level. General studies and Critical thinking A levels are not included in offers.  Good numeracy and literacy are essential, so good grades at GCSE will be expected for Maths and English if not offered at A level.

We welcome applications from candidates holding qualifications other than A-levels, but we look for a knowledge of Science or Mathematics equivalent to 2 A-level passes at B grade.

For more detailed information about the admissions procedure, see our Admissions Statement.

Students

Our current intake is typically split 40:60 between males and female. Our students come from all educational backgrounds including state schools (around 70%), independent schools (around 30%) and higher education colleges. Our intake also includes mature students as well as a number of international students from many places around the world. With the wide diversity of backgrounds from which our students come finding a compatible group of friends should be no problem! The average A-level UCAS tariff score for those starting in 2010 was 330 points (better than ABB).

Accommodation

The university has a number of halls of residence as well as student houses. Applicants who hold a firm place at Bristol are guaranteed a place in University accommodation during their first year provided they apply by the deadline. The halls are split between Stoke Bishop, from where there is a dedicated bus service and Clifton (about 15 mins walk from university). Information is available on accommodation and halls of residences. In the second and subsequent years students usually live in private rented accommodation, of which there is plenty within easy reach of the University.
