Third year students are required to write finals essays under the guidance of a supervisor. Here are individual lists of topics that members of staff are prepared to supervise for finals essays.

  • Andrew Pyle:  My main area of expertise is the Metaphysics and Epistemology of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries – roughly Descartes to Kant, taking in Spinoza, Leibniz, Locke, Berkeley and Hume. I am always happy to supervise essays in this area. In other areas of the History of Philosophy I have less expertise, but could be persuaded to supervise essays. I also have some expertise in the History & Philosophy of Science, and might be persuaded to supervise essays in the Popper-Lakatos-Feyerabend-Kuhn-Laudan area.
