Schools and colleges

Open days are a great opportunity to bring a group of students to visit the University. If you plan to bring a group, please contact the Widening Participation and Undergraduate Recruitment Office +44 (0)117 928 8623 or email open-days@bristol.ac.uk by:

  • Monday 23 April 2012 for the June open day
  • Monday 18 June 2012 for the September open day

Pupils will need to make individual bookings using the online booking form, which will go live on:

  • Wednesday 9 May 2012 for the June open day
  • Wednesday 11 July 2012 for the September open day

We will then provide you with details of which students have booked to attend, along with an information pack containing:

  • An information sheet for teachers and careers advisers
  • A map for coach and minibus parking.

Preparing your students

To ensure that your students get the most out of the day, encourage them to take the following steps beforehand:

  • Look at the University's website and online prospectus and make a note of the things they want to find out more about on the open day
  • Get them to take a look at the University of Bristol's factsheets
  • Think about the university experience as a whole. What will it be like living in Bristol? Is it too far from, or too close to, home? Are they serious about applying to Bristol before they book onto an open day?
  • Plan their day. A copy of the open day programme will be sent out electronically to students when they book their place. The programme will help them plan what they want to do while they are here, which sessions they want to attend or departments they want to visit, and anything else that would be useful to see or do during the day
  • Think of some questions in advance. There will be lots of academics and current students available to answer any questions your students may have
  • Find out what you need on the day.

Opportunities for teachers, lecturers and HE advisers

Academics, current students and admissions staff will be on hand during the day to deal with enquiries and provide more information about courses and how to support students through the application process.

The information for teachers and careers advisers welcome session provides information on a number of key issues relating to higher education. There will be a short presentation on our admissions procedure, the UCAS application process, the 14-19 curriculum changes and the University's outreach activities. There will also be an opportunity to find out about new courses and ask questions about all aspects of university life. Although you are coming with a school party, you will still need to book your own place.

Further outreach opportunities for schools and colleges

The University is committed to working with schools and colleges throughout the UK to encourage young people to think about higher education. This involves working with schools and colleges at higher education and careers fairs, giving talks to staff, students and parents, and supporting candidates through the application process.
