Nanoparticle-mediated electron transfer
The paper, 'Electrochemical charge transfer mediated by metal nanoparticles and quantum dots'
, looks at how increasing the complexity of molecular assemblages at electrode surfaces effects electron transfer, including the more recent incorporation of nanoparticles into these layers. The authors then map out the system requirements for nanoparticles to act as "electron launchers", allowing charge transfer across insulating surfaces.
A schematic diagram from the submission was then used by the journal for the issue front cover.
