Masters Inclusive Theory and Research
New opportunity for October 2011 enrolments
We are currently taking applications for our new Masters programme Masters in Disability Studies: Inclusive Theory and Research (empowering people with learning disabilities), leading to an MSc in Disability Studies research. The changes are still subject to validation, but will specifically offer students:
A grounding in research methods, which is a good basis for applying research methods within a range of professional contexts, or for research posts or PhD research- Core unit in Inclusive Research with Disabled People.
- Core units in Social Science research methods (Research design, quantitative and qualitative research).
- Optional units which give the opportunity to apply and examine research in different areas of Disability Studies, including Social Inclusion, Citizenship, Personalisation and Education.
This will particularly suit those seeking an MSc route from first degrees in Psychology, Social Sciences, Sociology and a range of other life sciences. It is also tailored to the needs of those already in professional posts, or seeking a career change.
Hallmarks of the Norah Fry Masters programme
- Units will be structured on a 3-day block basis, which particularly suits part-time students. However, full-time applications are also welcome.
- Within the broad field of Disability Studies, there will still be a chance to focus on the issues relating to people with learning (intellectual) disabilities.
- Students will be taught by staff from Norah Fry Research Centre, but also by disabled people and other co-tutors. This direct contact with disabled people has been very popular with our previous students.
- A chance to reflect, to share and to learn directly from active researchers at Norah Fry Research Centre.
