New Managing Director of Bristol is Open announced

Julie Snell has been appointed Managing Director of Bristol is Open.

Julie Snell will take up the role of Managing Director of Bristol is Open, a joint venture between the University of Bristol and Bristol City Council today (1 November).

Bristol is Open is developing an open programmable city. It is a collaboration between the technology, media & telecommunications industry, universities, local communities, and local and national government.

Graeme Hobbs, Non Exec Chair of BIO said: “Julie brings to our company great enthusiasm and a wealth of business expertise gained through her time at BT and the Wireless Broadband Alliance. Julie takes over from Barney Smith, our interim executive, who has guided the company through difficult times over the last 18 months.  On behalf of the board, I would like to welcome Julie and thank Barney for his considerable contribution.”

Julie Snell added: “Bristol is a city with tremendous potential that has already gained a significant global profile for the work it is doing in the Smart City arena. As a passionate advocate of innovation enabling change to improve the quality of people’s lives, I am looking forward to leading the Bristol is Open team in its next stage of development.
