She graduated with a First in Chemical Physics from the University of Bristol in 1982 before going on to do a PhD at Cambridge, where she’s worked for the last 30 years.

Professor Gladden’s research centres on the development of magnetic resonance measurements and adapting magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) methods to study non-medical subjects.

Her achievements have attracted many fellowships and awards, including a CBE in 2009 for services to chemical engineering. She’s also the Shell Professor of Chemical Engineering at Cambridge.

Highly-regarded scientist Professor Dame Carol Robinson is being awarded a Doctor of Science in recognition of her research work and support of women in science.

She has made significant breakthroughs in the application of mass spectrometry to the analysis of proteins and other large molecules, pioneering a new field of research.

After a short spell at the University of Bristol, where she had been awarded a training fellowship by the Medical research Council (MRC), Professor Dame Robinson went on to become the first female Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge in 2001 before moving her lab to Oxford in 2009 and becoming the first Professor of Chemistry there.

Professor Dame Robinson is renowned for her mentoring and support of women, striving to alter perceptions of female scientists.

An honorary degree is a major accolade, awarded in recognition of outstanding achievement and distinction in a field or activity consonant with the University’s mission.
