A mixed team from the University of Bristol took top honours in the recent Bristol Corporate Touch Challenge.

A mixed team from the University of Bristol took top honours in the Bristol Corporate Touch Challenge, held on 28 June.

The University team, made up of four men, Byron Tibbitts, Ian Syder, John Wilford and Chris White, and four women, Ceire Costelloe, Jen Palmer, Alix Groom and Megan Miller-Zutshi, won all of its pool games in the six-aside, touch rugby tournament before powering past Airbus in the semi-final and narrowly beating the University of the West of England (UWE) 6-5 in the final.

In total 12 of Bristol’s leading organisations – Airbus, Bristol City Council, Business West, Everyone Active, Hewlett-Packard, Lyons Davidson, Midas Construction, Osborne Clarke, Rolls-Royce, South Gloucestershire Council, the University of Bristol and UWE – fielded teams at the event hosted by UWE in aid of the Bristol Rugby Foundation.

Bristol has been chosen as a host city for the Rugby League World Cup 2013, and the Memorial Stadium will stage the clash between USA and the Cook Islands on 30 October. Half of the Touch Challenge team-entry fees were donated to the World Cup Day to Remember scheme, which will enable members of the local community to attend the match.
