Gardens featured in the trail include woodland gardens with historic trees, walled gardens, informal wildlife designs, Pulhamite water features, artworks and Sky the gorilla.

The event has been organised by local residents who saw an opportunity to promote the benefit of having the University’s Botanic Garden in their neighbourhood.

Nick Wray, Curator of the Botanic Garden, said: “I am delighted that the Botanic Garden will participate in the Stoke Bishop Open Gardens. The garden relies on the support of Friends and volunteers and so we particularly welcome this community event where local people work together whilst enjoying beautiful gardens. I look forward to welcoming many visitors during the afternoon.”

Cream teas and refreshments along with information on local community groups and activities will be available in the village hall.

Entry to the garden trail is by a passport costing £5 per person, accompanied children free, and can be purchased in advance at the Botanic Garden, or on the afternoon from Stoke Bishop Village Hall and all participating gardens.

The passport will also be valid for one entry to the Botanic Garden between 30 June and 6 July 2013.

All proceeds from the day will go to the University of Bristol Botanic Garden.
