The University of Bristol announced the award of two University Teaching Fellowships to academics in the Schools of Social and Community Medicine and Modern Languages.  The awards, which mark exceptional practice in teaching, were awarded to Dr Trevor Thompson in the School of Social and Community Medicine and Miss Gloria Visintini in the School of Modern Languages.

Academics awarded the Fellowship are able to spend a dedicated period of time on pedagogical research and to disseminate best teaching practice at a national and international level.

Professor Nick Lieven, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Students, University of Bristol said:  "Excellence is at the heart of what we stand for at Bristol and this is reflected through our teaching, research and in the way our staff and students involve themselves in extracurricular activities.  The Bristol experience is a rounded one and so it is right and proper that we mark the exceptional excellence of our teaching, just as we do our leading-edge research. These are not awarded lightly and to be awarding two is testament to the high quality of teaching at Bristol."

Dr Thompson is a Reader in General Practice in the School of Social and Community Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and Miss Visiniti is the Director for Technology Enhanced learning in the School of Modern Languages in the Faculty of Arts.
