The Human Rights Implementation Centre (HIRC) based in the University of Bristol Law Schoolis offering three new short courses in human rights:

• The African Human Rights System
• The Prevention of Torture
• The Implementation of Human Rights Standards in Practice

The four-week courses are aimed at students, academics, non-governmental and inter-governmental staff, representatives from governments, and legal professionals, as well anyone for whom knowledge of the subject is important to their work or who are embarking on a career in human rights. The aim is to provide students with a practical insight into the subject and a thorough understanding of the most recent developments.

Professor Rachel Murray, Director of the Human Rights Implementation Centre at the University, said: "These new online courses are an exciting opportunity for anyone who has an interest in human rights. They offer students the chance to really get a feel for the practical issues involved and to discuss recent developments with experts in the field."

All of the courses will take place from 1-26 July and will involve an average of 25 hours of work in total. They will all be taught though online distance learning by staff at HIRC and will also involve high profile experts from the UN and regional human rights bodies as well as other experts.

Each course costs £350 and students who successfully complete a course will receive a certificate of attendance. The courses are also CPD accredited for solicitors and barristers. The deadline to apply is 31 May 2013.
