Professor Malcolm Evans, OBE, has been elected as a Member of the United Nations Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture (SPT).

Professor Malcolm Evans, OBE, Professor of Public International Law, and one of the UK’s foremost experts on human rights, was elected as a member of the United Nations Subcommittee for the Prevention of Torture (SPT) on 25 October 2012. Professor Evans is currently chair of the SPT, and has served in that capacity since February 2011. His reappointment, through these recent elections, will see the renewal of his mandate as a subcommittee member from 1 January 2013, for a duration of four years. 

The SPT is a 25 member committee of experts that is mandated under the Optional Protocol to the Convention for the Prevention of Torture (OPCAT). Further details of the SPT, its Annual Reports and details of the elections are available from the OPCAT website.
