Professor Gary Foster of the School of Biological Sciences will be stepping down at the end of 2012 after 13 years as Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Plant Pathology, the journal he launched in 2000 as a joint venture by the British Society of Plant Pathology (BSPP) and Wiley. During this time it has become one of the leading international journals in the field.

During this time Molecular Plant Pathology has become one of the leading international journals in the field, well established as high quality, and yet with a strong reputation as a friendly and innovative journal.

Molecular Plant Pathology covers submissions from all areas of molecular plant pathology including research on diseases caused by fungi, oomycetes, viruses, nematodes, bacteria, insects, parasitic plants and other organisms.

Following an open call for applications in 2011, BSPP and Wiley Blackwell were pleased to announce that Professor Marty Dickman of the Department of Plant Pathology & Microbiology, Texas A&M University, USA, will become the new Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Plant Pathology from January 2013.

On his appointment, Professor Dickman said: “I am grateful and excited to have the opportunity to serve as Editor-in-Chief of Molecular Plant Pathology.  MPP is clearly established as a leading voice for scientific research involving plant-microbe/pest interactions.  Under the excellent leadership and vision of Professor Gary Foster and his top-notch staff led by Diane Hird, the bar has been set high.  It is my hope and intent to continue this standard of excellence as we move forward.”

Professor James Brown President of BSPP commented: “Gary Foster has been outstanding as the founding editor of MPP, making it one of the leading journals in the field.  BSPP is delighted to welcome a scientist of Marty Dickman’s calibre and experience as the new Editor-in-Chief of MPP. We look forward to working with Marty to continue the high standard of excellence and innovation set by Gary and his team.”’

Matt Pacey, Senior Journals Publishing Manager at Wiley-Blackwell said: “We are confident that Marty is the right person to build upon the strong foundations that Gary has laid for MPP.  Our aim will be to manage a seamless transition between the two editors and support Marty’s clear vision for the continued editorial development of the Journal.”
