Support of student enterprise at Bristol wins accolades

31 January 2011

The University’s support of student enterprise and entrepreneurs was recognised recently via two awards – one to a student society, the other to staff in Research, Enterprise and Development.

The Bristol Social Enterprise Society (BSE) won a ‘highly commended’ award at the National Placement Awards, which acknowledge the work of societies, companies and individuals to help students get internships and placements. BSE were nominated for their efforts to help place their members in social enterprises around the city.

RED’s Student Enterprise team received an Outstanding Impact Award from the organisers of Global Entrepreneurship Week 2010 for its work during that week. Events held by the University included a networking evening at the Goldbrick House restaurant, the launch of Basecamp (a new incubator for student start-ups), and an HP-sponsored innovation challenge.

The most successful activity was the £50 Challenge, in which students had 48 hours to turn a profit on a loan of £50 from RED. The winners made a profit of £185 by selling cakes for local charity One25.
