Professor Mervyn Miles of the School of Physics has been awarded a prestigious Wolfson Research Merit Award by the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science.

Professor Mervyn Miles of the School of Physics has been awarded a prestigious Wolfson Research Merit Award by the Royal Society, the UK’s national academy of science.

Professor Miles received the award for his work on high-speed non-contact force microscopy for biomolecular systems. He is one 12 scientists who took up their awards at institutions across the UK from the beginning of August.

Jointly funded by the Wolfson Foundation and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, the scheme aims to provide universities with additional support to enable them to attract to this country or to retain respected scientists of outstanding achievement and potential.
