PhD student, Jo Edgar and research assistant, Dr Becky Hothersall, in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, have been awarded prestigious Fellowships by the Parliamentary Office of Science and the British Science Association .

PhD student, Jo Edgar in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, has been awarded the Institute of Food Science & Technology (IFST) Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology Fellowship.

Jo will spend three months in the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) at the Houses of Parliament, working on a science-based project. She will gain experience in science writing and an insight into how Parliament functions. 

Dr Becky Hothersall, Research Assistant in Farm Animal Science in the Department of Clinical Veterinary Science, has been awarded a British Science Association 2010 Media Fellowship.

Becky, who researches animal pain and behaviour, will spend three to eight weeks at BBC Countryfile. The aim is to equip scientists with the skills to communicate their research to the public and to colleagues. Fellows learn to work within the conditions and constraints of the media to produce accurate and well-informed pieces about developments in science. Previous hosts have included The Guardian, Nature, BBC News and the Times.
