University signs up to 10:10 campaign

The University has committed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 10% during 2010, joining thousands of other UK organizations taking part in the 10:10 campaign.

The University has committed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions by 10% during 2010, joining thousands of other UK organizations taking part in the 10:10 campaign.

‘We hope to reduce our emissions over the coming year in a number of ways,’ said Martin Wiles, Head of Sustainability. ‘We’re spending £300,000 this year on insulating our buildings, making heating and lighting systems more efficient and controlling ventilation systems. In addition to this we have a £1.5 million project to reduce overvoltage at the University that will save an estimated £500,000 and should reduce emissions by 8% alone.’
