Bristol University awarded an honorary degree to Lady Wood, Isobel Mary Wood - known as ‘Molly’ - at a special Centenary Ceremony for Bristol alumni in the Wills Memorial Building on Saturday 4 July 2009.

Molly Wood, a Bristol graduate (BA 1930), was honoured with the degree of Master of Arts.

Molly Wood has been celebrated throughout 2009 as she turned 100 in January - coincidentally, in the same year as the University of Bristol celebrated the 100th year of the granting of its charter.  Lady Wood was recognised by the University because of her contributions of energy and insight to a wide range of causes, including numerous leadership roles while she was a student at Bristol in the late 1920s, an exemplary life as a teacher and then wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and a wide range of volunteer activities which contributed greatly to the communities where she lived.
