Two graduates of the Department of Drama: Theatre, Film, Television have won Tony awards, the US theatre industry's equivalent to the Academy Awards.

Peter Darling (BA Drama 1985) won the Tony for Best Choreography in a Musical (for his work on Billy Elliot) and Matthew Warchus (BA Drama and Music 1988) won for Best Direction of a Play (Yasmina Reza’s God of Carnage). Warchus was also nominated for his production of Alan Ayckbourn’s The Norman Conquests, the first time since 1942 that a director has been in competition with himself for the award.
