February e-learning workshops for staff

17 January 2008

A summary of February workshops for staff, run by the Education Support Unit, to encourage the use of technology in learning, teaching and assessment at Bristol.

The following workshops are coming up in February:

Introduction to digital video for learning and teaching
This workshop is intended for staff who would like to make use of the potential of video in their teaching. Digital video has recently become cheap, easy to use and readily available and can be used to create high-quality learning resources quickly and easily. The workshop aims to give an overview of the subject and to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to get started. Participants will see examples of how media can be used in education and gain practical hands-on experience of how to create a short but effective video film and how to deliver it to students.

Creating online learning and teaching materials with CourseGenie
CourseGenie is an easy-to-use system for converting documents to online tutorials, requiring little technical skill other than knowledge of MS Word. This software is now freely available to all University of Bristol staff and students. With no programming knowledge lecturers can easily create sequences of online learning material incorporating navigation between pages, images, online quizzes and assessment questions and other interactive elements. When complete, these materials can be uploaded and delivered through Blackboard.
