The new website invites applications for vacancies on Council – the University’s governing body – and a range of committees at University and faculty level. The aim is increase the diversity of the University’s key decision-making bodies. 

Successful applicants will have a direct role in shaping new strategy and initiatives that will help the University maintain its position as a thriving international community dedicated to learning, discovery and enterprise. 

When there are no current vacancies, staff will be able to register their interest in serving on a particular committee should a vacancy arise in the future. The website will also cover other opportunities to serve the University community in a variety of ways. In addition, it will highlight vacancies on outside bodies where a University nominee is required or the University has been invited to put forward the names of suitably qualified people.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor David Clarke is championing this initiative. He said: ‘This website reflects our wish to ensure that University governance opportunities are made known to all who may be qualified to serve. For the first time, we will openly publicise vacancies to all staff, setting out the skills and experience that the role requires.

‘We acknowledge the power of diversity in decision-making, leadership and governance and recognise the value that different points of view can bring to table when we are shaping our policies and strategies.’
