Self-healing spacecraft, running robots and quantum keys, sounds like something out of science fiction, but is actually engineering reality. Members of the public and University staff can find out more at the first Faculty of Engineering Research Reception being held next week [Wednesday, March 29].
The aim of the event, at the Merchant Venturers Building, is to showcase the faculty research themes and bring the academic community closer together with industry. It also aims to engage a wider audience with collaborative training and the enterprise activity.
Key themes are:
- Advanced Composites and Intelligent Structures
- Communications
- Dynamics Engineering
- Bristol Global Change
- Exabyte Informatics
- Information Processing and Biological Systems
- Robotics and Autonomous Systems
- Nanoscience and Quantum Information
Emerging themes include, Systems Engineering; Nuclear Engineering and Fluids.
Professor David Smith, Engineering Research Director, said: “People can find out about our key and emergent themes and discover if there are areas in which they wish to collaborate.
“The event has attracted a large number of industrialists from a diverse range disciplines and we are developing strategic relationships with a number of them. We look forward to welcoming everyone.”
Professor David Muir Wood, Dean of Engineering, added: “Industrial relationships will be an important part of a portfolio of sustainable research. We encourage everyone to the event to find out about the exciting research taking place in engineering, much of which is interdisciplinary and brings together researchers from different departments and faculties.”
Laboratory tours will leave reception at the Merchant Venturers Building every 15 minutes starting at 2.15 pm and stands will be hosted until 5 pm.
