You've been tango'd community challenge

An unusual challenge set to send pulses racing will be taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 January. Members of staff from across the University of Bristol will be joining forces with the local community in Easton to take part in the ‘Introduction to tango’ community challenge.

An unusual challenge set to send pulses racing will be taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 January.  Members of staff from across the University of Bristol will be joining forces with the local community in Easton to take part in the  ‘Introduction to tango’ community challenge.

The challenge, organised by two members of staff at the University, will give members of the public the chance to learn the basics of tango in a day, as well as its history and the music behind this fascinating dance. In addition, there will be a prize draw with prizes including tango CD's and a free 'Introduction to tango' workshop at Tango West in Clifton who are donating the prizes, with tuition from Cesar Velasquez an international tango teacher and performer from Colombia.

The event is free and open to everyone. The challenge takes place on Wednesday,18 January 2006 from 10 am to 4 pm at Easton Community Centre.

Janet Offer, the event’s tutor and co-director of Tango West, said: “The event hopes to bring together people from all walks of life, regardless of age, background, race or religion.  It’s a very enjoyable way to keep fit and a way to make new friends - tango is not only a beautiful dance but an art form which can cross all barriers.”
