Farewell and thanks from Patricia Broadfoot

Patricia Broadfoot: touched by colleagues' good wishes

30 August 2006

Former Pro Vice-Chancellor Patricia Broadfoot pays tribute to her Bristol colleagues as she moves to the University of Gloucestershire to take over the post of Vice-Chancellor.

Now that the dust has settled on the hectic round of farewell parties and goodbyes, I have had time to reflect on the marvellous send-off I received from the University. I was hugely touched by your most generous gifts, which translated into some engraved silver items for the dining room. These will be a constant reminder of my time at Bristol and of the warmth and affection of so many colleagues there. I was also very touched by the many cards and notes I received and the avalanche of good wishes they expressed. When the going gets tough in my new role, as undoubtedly it will at times, your good wishes will sustain me and give me confidence.

I have hugely enjoyed my 25 years at Bristol. Not only has the University been a constant source of intellectual excitement, it has also provided a wealth of friendship and wonderful colleagues. For me, it has certainly been ‘a positive working environment’!

So, thank you all for everything. I hope to stay in touch with many of you and I wish you all well for the future.
