The University of Southampton has awarded the Honorary degree of Doctor of Science to Professor Eric Thomas, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol.

Professor Thomas has made a major contribution to clinical academic medicine and higher education. Prior to his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol, he was Head of the University of Southampton’s School of Medicine (1995-98) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Biological Sciences (1998-2000).

The award was made at the University’s summer graduation ceremony in July.
