Students and staff from the three universities are eligible to enter their bright ideas for future businesses in individual competitions.
This year, six prize-winning teams will compete for the top title at the Winner of Winners event on 9th November 2005 which will be hosted by one of the co-sponsors Hewlett-Packard at the Hewlett-Packard Laboratories, Filton, Bristol.
This year's participating teams consist of;
Revolyner (Professor Terry Cosgrove & Roger Pettman). Professor Cosgrove has developed a new polymer which would make chewing gum much easier to clean off the streets, thereby saving the taxpayer millions of pounds in cleaning costs
Null Hypothesis (Andrew Impey, Mark Steer & David Hall) - the team have devised 'Null Hypothesis' to cast a wry eye over the world of science and technology. Described as being the 'Private Eye' of science journalism by the Daily Telegraph, Null Hypothesis is the only UK periodical to tackle its subject in a light-hearted fashion.

AlarmGas (Norman Ratcliffe & Team) - AlarmGas aims to produce a low cost and effective flammable gas detector using new sensor technology and develop further vapour sensor technology for use in the areas of agrichemicals, food, arson detection and medical diagnosis.
ARIES (Jonathan Benger & Team) - The ARIES projcet aims to save lives and reduce the suffering of members of the public in Bristol who suffer life-threatening events, such as accidents or sudden serious illness.
PumpnBounce (Aimee Cubitt & Tim Holsgrove) - PumpnBounce is a new device which pumps air into tennis balls to stop them from losing their 'bounce'. The invention incorporates a hand-operated pump with a tennis bal canister, allowing players to pressurise the container they store their tennis balls in.
Secure@Ease (Ben Green & Team) - the team have developed a device that could stop mobile phones from ringing in cinemas, libraries and quiet train carriages. The hardware device can detect transmitting mobile devices and generates alerts to enforce safe and responsible use.
