The novelists Patricia Ferguson, Sue Miller and Barbara Trapido and the biographer, Ralph Pite will be attending to talk about their work.
People taking part in the day will have an opportunity to be involved in a morning workshop, led by one of the department's tutors; a lunchtime panel, where all four authors will discuss their work; and an afternoon reading with one of the authors, with the chance to ask them questions. Tickets are priced at £10, which includes lunch.
Bristol-based author, Patricia Ferguson, who teaches for the English Department, has been longlisted for the Orange Prize and will talk about It So Happens, a gothic tale of crime, blackmail, redemption and the importance of soft furnishings.
Sue Miller has written six novels and a memoir, The Story of My Father, which is the subject of one of the morning workshops. She will also discuss her new novel, Lost in the Forest, available next month from Bloomsbury's website.
Ralph Pite is currently completing a biography of Thomas Hardy, which he will read from and talk about at the Day. The book will be published in spring 2006 by Picador.
Barbara Trapido is the author of six novels. Her first novel, Brother of the More Famous Jack, won a Whitbread special prize for fiction. Her new book Frankie and Stankie, a story of two sisters growing up in fifties South Africa, was shortlisted for the Whitbread Book Awards and hailed by the judges as 'the book she was born to write'. Both books will be two of the subjects of the morning workshops.

The day, organised by the English Department's Lifelong Learning Programme, will take place on Saturday 11 June, University of Bristol, Department of English, 3-5 Woodland Road, Bristol from 10 am to 3.30 pm.
