Reading adventure gets University vote

Press release issued: 8 January 2004

The University of Bristol has given its backing to The Great Bristol Reading Adventure.

The University of Bristol has given its backing to The Great Bristol Reading Adventure – an annual event without parallel in the UK and which this year focuses on John Wyndham’s The Day of the Triffids

Launched today [8 January], the project encourages everyone to read the same book at the same time and to share the experience.  It follows the extraordinary success of the first Reading Adventure, which took place in 2003 and was centred on Treasure Island.

The University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eric Thomas, said: “This is the kind of event that gives Bristol its cultural edge.  I hope many colleagues and students will join people across the city in reading a book that is as relevant now as it was in 1951.”
