An appeal to raise money for the UNICEF Children of Iraq Emergency Appeal has been launched by Bristol University's Medical Students International Network (MedSin).

Students will be collecting £1 donations around the city in clearly marked UNICEF tins until Saturday, May 17.

Money raised from the appeal will help the civilian population in Iraq, and in particular the children, who have been caught up in war for the third time in 20 years. Almost half of Iraq's population is under 18.

Natasha Chinai, a member of MedSin, said: "The MedSin are extremely concerned about the growing humanitarian crisis in Iraq that has escalated as result of the conflict in the region.

"We hope the general public will give generously to ensure the appeal is a success."

People wishing to make a donation to the appeal, or who are interested in arranging their own collection for the appeal, please email MedSinBristol@hotmail.com
