Bristol's renowned entertainment industry has joined forces with world-class researchers at the University of Bristol to form a new regional centre of excellence, known as 3C Research Ltd.

Bristol's renowned entertainment industry has joined forces with world-class researchers at the University of Bristol to form a new regional centre of excellence, known as 3C Research Ltd. Established to look into the technological future, this project will match visionary research with the needs of the mixed worlds of entertainment, telecommunications, computing and media.

This adventurous project is driven by the wider exposure of the population to IT and the internet, prompting a greater need for rapid and remote access to information. In addition people are looking to be liberated from their traditional confines, and so significant advances will be required in equipment portability and access to innovative information services and entertainment.

3C Research brings together a dynamic mix of academic excellence and creative and high-tech expertise. The overall aim of this project is to harness the power of technology to enable media to be a part our everyday lives, resulting in solutions for applications such as wireless home entertainment, enhanced reality computer-generated animation and games, and the ability to re-use media footage in the creation of new films.

With £12 million funding, 3C Research will be a major contributor towards the expected boom in the entertainment, telecommunications, computing and media industries. This will, in turn, put Bristol at the centre of this activity and will have far reaching effects on the local
