Bristol Business Plan competition: finalists announced


Enterprising students and staff at Bristol University were told at a reception today [Wednesday, February 7] if they are a step closer to winning £25,000.

Sir John Kingman, Vice-Chancellor of the University, announced the nine finalists who have been selected to compete in Round 2 of the Bristol Enterprise Centre's (BEC) Business Plan Competition.

  • The four finalists who won a cash prize of £2,000 are:

  • John Borg - The Pharmacard

  • Harry Mellor - Landmark Cell Markers

  • Amit Patel - Med eCARD

  • Ruth Townsley - Plain Facts Service

  • The other five finalists are:

  • Alex Baines and Alisdair MacDonald - Generation Holidays

  • Alan Chalmers and Duncan Brown - ArcLight: High fidelity media content creation

  • Jack Hanison - Broadband Internet Firewall & Access Router

  • Matthew Harris and Matthew Eves - Chameleon: The colourful urinal

  • Markus Szillat - Radio-Controlled Replacement Devices

The nine finalists now have three months to produce a full business plan for their idea. All entrants will continue to receive business support together with mentoring in commercial and business planning from BEC and the internationally renowned sponsor group that includes Citigate Dewe Rogerson, Deloitte & Touche, Fortis Bank, Osborne Clarke OWA and STMicroelectronics.

The winner of the competition will be announced at the end of June.
