We greatly value the support of Lord David Sainsbury of Turville FRS through his role as Patron for Bristol Neuroscience.
A keen advocate for science, Lord Sainsbury has had a longstanding interest in the science of the brain. This was sparked whilst he was a student at Cambridge under the tutelage of Bristol's late Professor Richard Gregory (1923-2011).
Lord Sainsbury's commitment to science is clearly reflected in his career - he was minister for Science and Innovation for eight years, from 1998 to 2006.
Moreover he donates millions of pounds to research through The Gatsby Charitable Foundation. This is a charity set up using his own resources. Cognitive neuroscience is one of the key areas of the Foundation, and it is currently in the process of establishing two major new Centres - one for plant science in Cambridge, and the other, in London, dedicated to cognitive neuroscience.
