Jean Hasse composes for films, videos, websites and special events, along with concert music pieces. She is also active as a music copyist, publisher and pianist.
Recent composing projects include:
- The Fall of the House of Usher (1928, James Watson, Dir., 12 min.): A new score for Counterpoise (Alto Sax, Tpt, Vln and Piano) to accompany the silent film. Premiere at Kings Place, London, 29 March 2010, and then touring.
- The Rat (1925, Graham Cutts, Dir., 80 min.): Live accompaniment for piano, accordion and clarinet, premiered in November 2008 at the Arnolfini, Bristol.
- Ghosts Before Breakfast (1927, Hans Richter, Dir., 7 min.): A new score for Alto Sax, Tpt, Vln and Piano to accompany the silent film. Performances scheduled across the UK.
- Mabel's Dramatic Career (1913, Mack Sennett, Dir., 14 min.): Live piano accompaniment, March 2008, NFT/BFI Southbank, London, Birds Eye View Festival.
- Faust (1926, F.W.Murnau, Dir., 106 min.): A new score for chamber orchestra to accompany the silent film. First performances were October 2007, Victoria Rooms, Bristol, and Barbican, London.
- Scisational: Opening title music/sound design and final end credits for 8 science-based films created by Bristol-area students, organised by the University’s Centre for Public Engagement. First screening was December 2007, Great Hall, Wills Building.
- Brunel.Bristol: A 4-minute musical soundscape (music software samples and sound effects) that preceded the University Vice-Chancellor's talk on Bristol, Brunel and Science, December 2006, Wills Building.
- Collections Considered: Solo violin piece for Peter Sheppard Skaerved, performed at the British Museum, June 2006, and St Paul’s Cathedral, August 2007.
