Geoff was director of composition at Bristol for almost a decade before taking early retirement in 2009. He also served as head of music 2006-08. His earlier career was spent at Manchester University (1976-2000). Fellowships undertaken at Nairobi, Princeton and Seoul testify to the dynamic interplay of classicism, modernism and interculturalism that characterise his compositional personality, most recently charted by Deniz Ertan in Tempo magazine (July 2009).
