Dr Tommasso Sabbatini joins the department as British Academy Newton International Fellow
27 March 2020
We are delighted to welcome Dr Tommaso Sabbatini as a British Academy Newton International Fellow. Tommaso's project Fairy Tales of Two Cities: West End spectacular theatre and its Parisian influences, 1866–1900 will offer an alternative history of late Victorian theatre that builds on his doctoral research into Parisian féerie and the emergence of mass culture in France.
He will be working with the Theatre Collection and examining the cultural broth from which such phenomena as the Drury Lane Christmas pantomime and the Gaiety burlesque emerged.
