Istanbul Music Festival announces World premiere of new Ellison opera

The opera Deniz Küstü, by Michael Ellison (Department of Music) and Simon Jones (Department of Theatre) will be premiered on Saturday 11 June as part of the Istanbul Music Festival. This piece of Total Music Theatre, which includes choreography by Zeynep Tanbay and video by NohLAB, is an adaptation of Yasar Kemal's proto-environmentalist novel of 1978 about the vulnerability of fishing communities. Recent MBE (Queen’s award) recipient Michael Rafferty (Music Theatre Wales) conducts a cast of top singers from the UK: Gwion Thomas (Fisher Selim), Robyn Allegra Parton, Louise Innes, Damian Thantry and Edward Grint, together with Istanbul’s renowned Hezarfen Ensemble.
