We are delighted to announce that Professor Katharine Ellis has been appointed to the Stanley Hugh Badock Chair of Music, which she will take up in January 2013, following the retirement of Professor Stephen Banfield.
Katharine is a cultural historian of music in nineteenth-century France and is currently Professor of Music at Royal Holloway, University of London.
From 2006 to 2009 Katharine was inaugural Director of the Institute of Musical Research at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, where she also acted as Deputy Dean of the School. She is a former editor of both Music & Letters and the Journal of the Royal Musical Association. She is also a member of the Council of the American Musicological Society and in 2010 she was elected to membership of the Academy of Europe.
