John's published work on Mozart includes books on the Piano Sonatas, Piano Concertos and String Quartets, some of which have been reprinted in paperback or translation. Reception contexts for Mozart's music and its interpretation, especially in performance, are developing themes in his work. John said: 'I'm naturally thrilled that the university has honoured me in this way and grateful for the support of my colleagues in the Music Department and in the Faculty of Arts. I see this appointment as a great opportunity to develop the Music Department's research agendas into new territory, stressing the primacy of performance in our interpretation of Mozart's notated texts. I'm especially keen to see this translate into BA and MA teaching, and to develop our splendid work in Lifelong Learning in the region, starting with a LL Lunchtime Research Seminar on Performing Mozart in the Victoria Rooms on 6 December.'
