University Singers

The Singers consists of around 35 members and performs a wide range of classical music from the Renaissance through to the present day, mainly unaccompanied. It is run by an experienced professional conductor and contributes three concerts to our lunchtime series, one each term, and occasionally repeats these outside the University. The group has recently released a highly acclaimed CD. The Singers will also be performing a Christmas concert in the last week of the autumn term.

University Chamber Choir

The Chamber Choir is an auditioned group of around 40 singers, performs a wide range of choral repertoire throughout the year and has two concerts each term. A highlight of the year is the Easter tour to Slovenia with the University Chamber Orchestra, the annual Carol Concert in December, which will feature Britten's A Ceremony of Carols and a joint-concert with Chamber Orchestra at the world-class St. George's Music Hall.

University Choral Society

Choral Society is open to all staff and students and to anyone associated with the University. There is no audition and anyone can join, though members are expected to be capable of singing from a score. We give one concert a year and also participate in the University Christmas Carol Service on the final Wednesday of the Autumn Term. This year's concert (17 March 2018) will consist of Verdi's Requiem, with the University Symphony Orchestra and professional soloists. You can enrol online (joining fee £12.00) at shop.bris.ac.uk from 18th September or in person at the first rehearsal. If you enrol online, please keep your email receipt as confirmation of enrolment and bring it with you to the first rehearsal so that you can collect your vocal scores. Please contact the Music Department's Concerts and Resources Office with any queries (tel. 0117 331 4044). The joining fee includes a copy of the music for you to keep.

University Church Choir

The University Church Choir is a friendly, non-auditioned group based at St. Paul’s Church, Clifton (behind the Victoria Rooms). We usually sing each week for the Sunday morning service, and twice a term we sing Choral Evensong. We have a high turnover of music with an ever expanding repertoire and also an active social programme. This summer we spent a week singing in Norwich Cathedral as a visiting choir, and next year we're heading to Salisbury Cathedral. University Madrigal Ensemble (BUME)

BUME is a 16-strong choir of auditioned singers, who perform unaccompanied music from across the ages. The choir sings a wide range of repertoire from Renaissance madrigals and English partsongs to contemporary art song and jazz arrangements. Each year the choir goes on a tour to Cornwall at the end of the summer term to perform in a series of concerts at locations such as Truro Cathedral and St Endellion, this year will be their 36th annual tour! For any questions, contact Ailsa Campbell (president) at bristolume@gmail.com

Schola Cantorum

The Schola Cantorum is an auditioned women's choir, open only to music students (and joint-honours music students). We specialise in Medieval Music. Find out more about the Schola Cantorum.

University of Bristol A Cappella Society

The Bristones

The Bristones are the mixed unauditioned group of the society, providing absolutely everyone with the chance to sing a cappella. With one rehearsal each week, the group allows people of all abilities to release ther inner Pitch Perfect, singing a variety of music! This is an extremely fun and sociable group, where everyone is welcome, and the ability to read music is not required.

Top Note

We are the unauditioned group for upper voice parts. This past year we have had great fun together, singing a range of music from Bon Jovi to Amy Winehouse. In the coming year, we plan to try out some new and different music genres, and to introduce solos into our pieces!

The Tone Rangers

We're the unauditioned group for lower voice parts. We sing a massive range of music from barbershop to Katy Perry and everything in between! We're really social with the other groups, especially Top Note, and can't wait to see what the next year brings!

HOTTUBBS

HotTUBBS are the oldest auditioned group in the society and sing a variety of music, from close-harmony, to barbershop, to popular songs. We perform at smaller private functions (such as balls and formals) and compete in national events. For example, HotTUBBS were champions at the Oxford Music Festival 2014 and semi-finalists at The Voice Festival 2016.

The Bristol Suspensions

The Bristol Suspensions are a mixed 17-piece group who specialise in modern a cappella. Fresh from their appearance on BBC1's Pitch Battle, their 3rd successful run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and their first ever tour of USA, not to mention becoming the Voice Festival UK University Champions 2016 and ICCA Semi Finalists 2017, they are looking for strong singers of all parts (and beatboxers) to continue their success.

Academy

We are the society's all-male auditioned group and are looking for enthusiastic singers to join us! After a great year of performances and gigs, we're planning big things for the year ahead: competitions, festivals and everything in-between. We like to perform a variety of music that best reflects our personalities and generally just enjoy what we do. If you're interested, we would love to hear from you!

Pitch Fight

Pitch Fight are Bristol University's all-female a cappella group. After our taste of fame on Sky TV's Vocal Heroes, we're ready to take the competition by storm in 2017! Our music ranges from Disney classics to Queen B anthems so if you like sick tunes and sweet moves, come along and audition! We're recruiting for all voice parts so whether you're a high soprano or a lady bass, we want to hear from you.

Brizzlebox

Brizzlebox, the society's youngest group, is entirely devoted to beatboxing and sound effects! We fool around with microphones and loop pedals and produce top-quality, genre-fusing covers as well as original material. We love opening society shows and providing a rhythm section for other groups, but are looking to get more involved with beatboxing competitions and other opportunities this year!
