A study of William Croft, Maurice Greene, John Travers and William Boyce reveals music of a strong and attractive character, expressively crafted, and sometimes on a bold and epic scale. They all enjoyed writing for solo voices, and we shall sample these Verse anthems as well as their Full anthems. The director's copies of important publications of the period will be on display: Boyce's Cathedral Music and a 1743 edition of Greene's Forty Anthems.
